Hooligans Clash at Athens Airport

first_imgATHENS – Five people were injured Nov. 5 when suspected Croatian and Serb soccer hooligans battled outside Athens International Airport, police said.The Serbs, allegedly supporters of Red Star Belgrade, clashed with the Croats, fans of Dinamo Zagreb, on the day after a Champions League game between the Croatian team and Greece’s Olympiacos.While Dinamo was not given tickets to the game due to security concerns, dozens of its supporters traveled to Greece on their own. Olympiacos won the game 2-1.Earlier in the week, 45 Croatians and four Serbs were held in custody in Athens over charges of weapons and drugs possession after police stopped a caravan of them on the way to Athens with officials fearing they were planning to riot with Zagreb and Greek fans.TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img
