Michel Platini resigns from UEFA after failing to overturn ban

first_imgUEFA president Michel Platini has resigned from European football’s governing body after failing in his bid to overturn a six-year ban.A decision by the Court of Arbitration for sport reduced the length of the Frenchman’s ban from six years to four years, but crucially the ban remains in place leaving his position untenable having being suspended from the sport.Platini, 60, said he was resigning from his position after he and former FIFA president Sepp Blatter were found guilty of breaching ethics over an exchange of payment apparently worth £1.3m.Both men denied any wrongdoing, but Platini took his case to the CAS after the FIFA appeals committee had reduced the both bans from eight years to six years.A three-man CAS panel said it “was not convinced by the legitimacy of the payment”.– Follow Joy Sports on Twitter: @JoySportsGH.
