first_imgIt’s been just shy of 50 years since Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee.The Tuscaloosa chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference is commemorating the day with an event looking back on what’s happened in the world since King’s death.MLK 50 is a nationwide event that started with the National Civil Rights Museum. Here in Tuscaloosa, the SCLC is focusing on the many positive changes King made, and will honor his legacy of peace and hope.“A lot of people have helped,” said Tuscaloosa SCLC chapter President Tyshawn Gardner. “People from all over the city coming together as one to reflect on the life of this great man and try to embody his vision and try to apply it to some of the issues we have going on today.”The event is happening Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, 128 39th St. E. in Tuscaloosa.last_img read more
